How Leaving Threads Led Me to TikTok Success
Why did I decide to leave Threads, only to open a TikTok account? It's probably not what you think.
Please don’t hate me, but I deleted my Threads last year.
In case you’ve been on your rabbit hole, Threads is a Meta platform that is like Twitter. Well, save from some better features.
For example, Threads has a limit of 500 characters. You can edit your post even if you have published it.
And the tweet series? You can do it in Threads, too.
Since it’s a Meta platform, it’s easy to open an account.
If you have an Instagram, you can create a Threads account.
But like I said, I deleted my Threads account.
I remembered how excited I was when Threads was launched. I was about to end my 14-day isolation from the radioactive iodine therapy I underwent last year. I saw the announcement about Threads’ launch the night before.
The next day, I opened an account.
I studied the layout and its features after I published my first Thread.
Then after four months, I decided to leave.
Why, you ask?
One, there’s not much interaction going on for me. I know this could also be my fault.
If I don’t talk to at least one person in Threads, then what’s the point, right?
Second, it felt like another platform for me to spend my time on.
The second reason was weird because guess what?
In January 2024, I opened a TikTok account.
I joined a course that forced me to create stories every day, then tell them in video form.
Since January, I've been sharing videos on TikTok and YouTube Shorts, as well as on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
I post random stories, as well as Facebook Marketing tips and quotes. Sorry, I don’t dance and would never dance there.
Why did I decide to open a TikTok account? Let me ask you a question first: Do you post on social only when you want to?
I don’t market myself. Ironically, I am a marketer.
I fell in love with marketing more than a decade ago.
It started when I joined Jomar Hilario’s “How To Become A Virtual Assistant Seminar”, then his “Online Marketing Club.”
Since then, I have become good at marketing other people’s personal brand or business using social media. (Okay, to be very specific, on Facebook.)
But not for myself. I don’t have a clear marketing strategy. I wing my content. I post when I just like it.
Another mentor said not marketing is a sabotage. Like you don’t value yourself.
It’s otherwise to me.
It’s just that I got busy.
Another mentor said try all platforms!
I told myself I don’t have the patience to know them.
Lately, I realized: probably, I am limiting myself.
If I give it time, I know I can do it.
So the next question was, “How?”
Somehow, situations led me to reading Jomar Hilario’s email.
It’s about creating momentum.
See, when you do something small daily, you create momentum. When I do that, I feel good. I feel I am going somewhere. Somehow, my efforts will be worth it.
So here I am, creating momentum, with a mentor and friends.
Swallowing my pride of “no time”. Telling myself that I will be patient.
Why?
Because I want to serve as many clients as I can.
Because they are out there, probably wasting money on something or someone that’s not helping their business at all.
If they don’t see me, they will be frustrated.
They might even give up.
I told myself this would take time.
Yet I will enjoy the journey.
Exciting times ahead.
P.S.: Will I open a Threads account again? Not closing doors. However, I prefer having other non-Meta platforms in my social media pockets. You will discover differences in audience behaviors per platform.
P.S. 2: I just created a TikTok Business Manager for the digital marketing agency that my business partner and I are building. We’ll serve clients using TikTok ads soon. The future is bright.
