🎙️Men Outpace Women in Media Usage Growth: New Report
The global consumer use of media is expected to grow by 2.3% year-over-year to 57.5 hours per week, reaching its saturation point. Men consume media at a higher rate than women and are accelerating their consumption more rapidly.
The Background
The 11th annual PQ Media Global Consumer Media Usage Forecast 2024-2028 provides actionable media consumption intelligence for various markets, global regions, digital and traditional media platforms, hybrid media silos, and consumer demographics.
The Revelation:
Among m-Gen (Generation Z) consumers (born 2013 and after), media consumption grew the fastest at 10.4%, while the Greatest Generation followed closely with a 9.6% increase year-over-year, reaching an average of 86.5 hours per week.
Traditional media usage dropped by an average of 3.1% last year to 35.1 hours per week, while consumers spent 21.1 hours per week on digital media, which increased by 6.7%. Traditional media, accounting for 62.5% of overall usage last year, still holds the majority of consumers' media time around the world, even as consumers continue to shift to digital media.
Consumers worldwide spent an average of 8.2 hours per day consuming media last year, per the report, up almost an hour from the 7.3 hours registered in 2018.
Globally, mobile video consumption grew the fastest among digital media channels in 2023 at +18.5%, followed closely by mobile games, audio, books, and podcasts. In that order, these were also the four US digital media channels with the fastest rates of growth.
The Data and Sources
The study cites PQ Media's Global Consumer Media Usage Forecast 2024–2028, which indicates that media consumption is approaching its saturation point as digital device penetration nears its peak and starts to decline in various global markets, including the United States.
Why does this matter?
This demonstrates a shift in consumer behavior towards digital media, with notable growth in channels such as mobile video, games, audio, books, and podcasts. Understanding these trends can guide marketers in targeting their audience and allocating resources effectively in the evolving digital landscape.
Our Take
This data suggests that businesses should prioritize digital marketing strategies to effectively reach consumers in the future and adapt to the changing media consumption patterns. Companies can compete in a digital world by staying ahead of these trends.

🚨Limbaugh Tops YouGov's List of Familiar Podcasts and Shows
YouGov released a list of the most popular podcasts and radio programmes in the first three months of 2024, based on YouGov's global survey, and the results were surprising. Despite having more downloads in the United States, Joe Rogan is not the most popular podcast or radio show according to YouGov's global survey results of the most well-liked podcasts and radio shows.
The Revelation:
YouGov also ranked the percentage of people familiar with podcasters and radio shows. Limbaugh ranked first, with 85% of respondents familiar with the show even after years off the air. He was with SiriusXM's Stern, a key figure. Third, the BBC Global News podcast was recognized by 77% of global respondents. Rogan ranks fourth with 76% having heard of The Joe Rogan Experience. YouGov found 76% of respondents familiar with Premiere Radio's syndicated talker Sean Hannity, ranking No. 5.
What is YouGov Rating?
YouGov Ratings is the biggest and boldest attempt to quantify American opinion. We publish nationally representative popularity scores for thousands of things. Pew Research Centre says YouGov Ratings "consistently outperformed" other online polling companies due to our accurate and precise methodology.
Our data and sources
YouGov Ratings calculate the nationally representative popularity score for thousands of brands, products, companies, and people based on over 24 million responses and growing daily.
YouGov then linked each popularity rating in our massive database to better understand fans. We show you what fans of each entity like in terms of age, gender, and other things they like, giving you a real sense of what differentiates different groups in the population.
Why does this matter?
Understanding the demographics and preferences of different fan groups can help businesses tailor their marketing strategies to better target their desired audience. This data-driven approach can lead to more effective campaigns and ultimately increase brand loyalty and sales.
Our Take
Fan demographics can help businesses connect with their target audience more meaningfully. This data allows companies to personalise and target their marketing to fans more deeply.
